If original stle is what your looking for stick with the camel hump heads. If not bolt on aset of Vortecs and a vortec intake and be done.With your cam and Vortec heads torque and horsepower into the lower 400’s is possible with sufficient attention to the details. Even ported camel humps on an otherwise identically built engine cannot get those kind of numbers.Vortecs are superior to the old camel hump heads. Hands down they will outflow a set of "small valve" camel humps because a stock Vortec head will outflow even some 2.02/1.6 camel hump heads. But you'll need the following: Vortec specific intake. Vortec specific intake gaskets.Heads have screw in studs/guide plates, are machined for .495 pos-lock seals and have 1.450 spring pockets. Will replace .040x1.55 gasket with .039x4.166 gasket. Should be 9:1 but with .065 quench. New Manley Street Flow 11/32 2.02/1.60 valves, positive lock seals, comp 26986 beehives with 10 degree PAC retainers/locks.Actually, the camel hump heads came on many 4bbl engines during the '60's as well as the rare fuel injected 'Vette engines. And the same 461 / 462 castings having the more common 1.94" / 1.50" valves could be more easily found in wrecking yards than could those having the rarer and much more sought after 2.02" / 1.60" valves.....Thanks guys, Right now, i'm thinking of getting a set and not running my world 72cc heads for two reasons first they wont look right, and second, ive decided i want to up my compression to around 11. I know normal camel humps are around 64cc's that is gunna put me around 11.8, and that i think for a street rig is gunna be a little too much.My guess is that the camel hump heads are probably good for 15-20 hp on a street engine just from the compression ratio increase. Flow will be close to the same.
