My marlin 60 is 35 years old, Hot water is all I have ever cleaned the Model 60 with.As for how often, with my 60 it depends on what ammo I'm shooting. The lead rounds (CCI Blazer & Win. Wildcat) seem to need a cleaning after 200 rounds or so.
