This makes them less suitable for welding high-strength structures where maximum strength and crack resistance are crucial. Also, the welds created with 6011 may not be as aesthetically pleasing as those with 7018.The designation on the rod is 7018, which means that it produces a weld of 70,000 psi which makes it an amazing choice for heavy-duty welding. It is an all-position rod; thus, you can use it flat, horizontal, overhead, and vertical, making it even easier to use. The 7018 is very flexible in use, and that is part of why people love it so much ...Stick Welding Amperage Chart of Electrode Type vs Diameter PRO TIP: A good rule of thumb for setting your stick welder (SMAW) to the approximate right setting to start off with is the amperage setting should be about the same as the decimal equivalent of the rod diameter. For example, 3/32" rod diameter would be (.094) 90 amps, 1/8" rod ...1/8 rod is .125 run 125 amps. 5/32 rod is .156 run 156 amps. . 6013 rod. 1/16 rod use .030 to .075 thick steel. 3/32 rod use for 1/16 to 3/16 thick steel. 1/8 rod 3/32 to 1/4 thick steel. 5/32 rod 3/16 to 1/4 thick steel. in general if welding over 1/4 thick use 7018 instead cause 6013 is a sheetmetal rod.
